To enhance maternal and neonatal health in Burundi by strengthening the capacity of midwives, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality.
Created to guarantee the provision of quality preventive, curative and promotional care for the protection of the public in the practice of midwifery, with the mission to contribute to the reduction of maternal-foetal mortality in Burundi as midwives in order to Contribute to the development of mother-child health by strengthening the capacity of midwives to ensure quality care that allows us to have A Burundi where every woman of childbearing age and her newborn have access to quality health care provided by midwives. The Midwife in Action's Association MAA Vyara Uheke is a professional medical organization, a framework for the midwifery profession, founded on health, sympathy, empathy, love, equality, dignity, humility, respect, non-violence, integrity, transparency and tolerance. The Midwife in Action's Association MAA Vyara Uheke Burundi is actively represented in all the health provinces, divided into regions that work for and through committed, determined and resilient young midwives. Through numerous initiatives and projects, supported by various stakeholders, The Midwife in Action's Association MAA Vyara Uheke engages Burundian midwives to contribute to the reduction of maternal and foetal mortality and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as participating in the implementation of the National Development Plan (2018-2027), Burundi's National Health Policy 2016-2025 and the national strategic plan SRMNIA and the vision of an emerging Burundi in 2040 and a developed Burundi in 2060 in the field of sexual and reproductive health. The Midwife in Action's Association (M.A.A) has been working in Burundi since 7th March 2019 under Ministerial Agreement number 530/420 of 7th March 2019 and has been in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and the fight against AIDS since 27th July 2020. It has also been a member of the International Confederation of Midwives since 2021.
