Ruth Sloman, RM, MSc
Midwife & Clinical Mentor
Ruth Sloman is a UK-trained midwife with a Master’s degree in Midwifery, qualified in 2014. She is passionate about midwifery and believes midwives play a vital role in supporting women through pregnancy, childbirth, and early newborn life, while reducing maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality.
Since November 2020, Ruth has been working in Burundi at Cornerstone Clinic in Bukeye, Muramvya Province. She supports the strengthening of maternity services through clinical mentorship, staff training, and the development of care protocols, as the clinic transitions towards managing more complex obstetric cases.
Ruth is particularly committed to capacity building and believes that sustainable, high-quality care is best led by local health professionals. Her role focuses on mentoring Burundian midwives and healthcare workers, supporting them to deliver culturally appropriate and compassionate care within their communities.
She is proud to be part of The Midwife in Action’s Association (MAA) and is inspired by its work to strengthen the midwifery profession in Burundi.
